This song helps us imagine ourselves present with the grieving women followers of Jesus, who have just seen Him crucified and now prepare the customary preparations for a proper burial. Special thanks to Eleanor Carlson as art director and to Nola Nelson and Lindsey Deakins for ‘lending a hand.’ In writing the song, Katy Wehr imagined the myrrhbearers consoling each other by singing a well known text from Song of Songs 8, which seems both mournful and hopeful here. When the Babylonian and Hebrew Creation stories are told together it shows the deep theological meaning of Genesis 1: God is in control, God can create by His words and God absolutely loves everything that He has made - including human beings. We were not created to be slaves of the gods, but to be God's image-bearers in the world. We are His precious creations. Kathryn Wehr, PhD created this story for her theology class at North Central University. She would pass out shakers, bells and other sound effect-makers and get the whole class involved making water sounds, etc. Katy is pleased to collaborate here with two college students: Clarinetist Claire Zwiefelhofer and Photographer Patrick Wehr (her nephew). The hymn tune at the end of the video is a traditional Welsh tune known as Ash Grove to which the text "Let All Things Now Living" is sung.
